The Loire Valley castles are located in the Loire Valley and have the distinction of having been, for the most part, rebuilt or greatly modified in the 15th and 16th centuries when the kings of France and their court were established there.
Et c’est dans le Val de Loire que Charles VII et Louis XI firent de Tours la capitale du Royaume de France. Cependant, Henri IV put an end to this situation by returning the capital to Paris in 1594. It was in Italy, at the end of the 15th century, that the Valois discovered a new way of life which they brought back to the Loire Valley thanks to the arrival of numerous artists, including Léonard de Vinci.
Their geographical location
Most of these castles are located in the departments of Maine-et-Loire, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher, Eure-et-Loir and Loiret, but also in the departments of Sarthe, Mayenne, Cher, Indre and Nièvre.
